Nagaland Super League Kicks Off with Grand Opening Ceremony and Thrilling First Match

Nagaland made history as Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated the first-ever Nagaland Super League (NSL) with a grand opening ceremony at Chümoukedima Football Stadium. Football fans across the state gathered to witness this landmark event that aims to elevate Nagaland’s football scene to new heights.

A Historic Day for Nagaland Football

During the ceremony, CM Rio called it a historic day for football and sports in Nagaland. He paid tribute to Dr. T. Ao, a legendary footballer who played a crucial role in Indian football history. Expressing gratitude to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for its continuous support, he emphasized that NSL will serve as a stepping stone for young footballers in the state.

Seven Elite Teams Competing for Glory

The inaugural edition of NSL features seven top teams from across Nagaland, showcasing the best footballing talent in the state. These teams include:

  • Nagaland United SC
  • Frontier Warriors
  • Red Scars FC
  • Suchu Zubza FC
  • Longterok FC
  • Barak FC
  • 27th United FC

Matches will be played at two venues: Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima and Chümoukedima Football Stadium.

Inaugural Match: Barak FC vs. Nagaland United SC

Following the opening ceremony, the much-anticipated first match of NSL kicked off between Barak FC and Nagaland United SC. The game saw intense action right from the start, with both teams displaying strong counter-attacks and tactical play. Fans were treated to a high-energy first half, setting the stage for an exciting tournament ahead. The final score was 3-2, with Barak FC defeating Nagaland United. 

National Recognition & VIP Attendance

The presence of AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey at the event underscored the national significance of the NSL. His support highlights the potential of Nagaland’s football ecosystem and the opportunities that lie ahead for aspiring players in the region.
