Nagaland Super League: A Transformative Journey

Nagaland Super League: A Transformative Journey

A New Era for Football in Nagaland

Over the past few months, something special has unfolded in Nagaland. The Nagaland Super League (NSL) has not just been about football—it has become a movement.

With 45 matches, over 4,050 minutes of play, and 140+ goals, the league has captured the imagination of thousands. More than 25,000 fans have turned up in both IG Stadium & Chümoukedima Football Stadium, and countless others have watched online. But beyond the numbers, NSL has sparked new energy in sports, youth employment, local businesses, and the state’s economy. This is the story of how NSL is changing Nagaland.

The Footballing Impact: Raising the Game

A Platform for Talent

With 203 players across seven franchises, the NSL has given local footballers the kind of competitive stage they have never had before. Young stars are emerging, and veterans are pushing their limits.

The introduction of awards like the Golden Star Award for U-20 Talent and the Golden Boot for top scorers has given players a real incentive to shine. More importantly, the presence of AIFF officials and professional coaches means the level of play is only getting better.

Inspiring the Next Generation

For kids across Nagaland, NSL has made football feel like a real career option. The sponsorship of the
Inter-School Sports Competition 2025 at Aghunato Town is just one example of how NSL is
investing in young athletes.

Coaching, Fitness & Infrastructure

Beyond players, NSL has been a game-changer for coaches, referees, and technical staff. Training programs have improved fitness levels and tactical understanding, and more resources are flowing into stadiums and practice grounds.

The Impact on Youth & Employment:

Creating New Jobs in Sports

The league has involved 512+ people in various roles beyond just the players. This includes:

70+ support staff handling team logistics and training

336 volunteers and staff working across branding, refereeing, event management, hospitality, and even garbage management

106 event personnel ensuring smooth operations on matchdays

For many of these individuals, NSL has provided their first real experience working in sports—a stepping stone to future opportunities.

Building Leadership & Skills

Volunteers from Chümoukedima and Kohima have played a crucial role in making NSL happen. Their work has given them exposure to professional sports management, something that will help them in their careers ahead.

Economic Impact: A Boon for Local Businesses

Ticket Sales & Stadium Revenue

With over 25 thousands tickets sold, NSL has proven that Nagaland’s sports scene has real commercial potential. AHIBI.IN, the NSL ticketing partner, has made online booking easier, cutting down long queues and ensuring better crowd management.

Boosting Local Businesses & Tourism

Beyond ticket sales, NSL has been a major boost for local businesses, restaurants, and transport services. Matchdays have seen increased footfall at local shops, while stadium vendors have benefited from the surge in visitors.

The NSL Fanzone has been another highlight, with music, entertainment, and local stalls adding to the matchday experience. Merch sales have also surged, with jerseys, scarves, and other memorabilia flying off the shelves.

Sponsorship & Financial Growth

With 25+ sponsors, including Toyota, KIA, Coca-Cola, Royal Enfield, and local brands like VK & Sons, Niathu Group, NSL is proving to be a commercially viable project. More investment means bigger prize pools, better facilities, and a higher level of professionalism in future seasons.

Digital & Media Reach: Taking NSL Global

Explosive Social Media Growth

NSL has become one of the biggest digital sports properties in Nagaland, with massive engagement across platforms:

Facebook: 8,814,762(Approx. 8.8 million)

Overall: 28,265,888 (Approx. 28.26 millions)

Live Broadcast & Media Coverage

Matches have been broadcast live on SportsCast India and NSL’s YouTube channel, allowing fans across the country to tune in. NE Live and Nagaland Post have ensured wide coverage in print and digital media, keeping the buzz alive.

KAKI Marketing’s branding and social media management have played a key role in this growth.

The NSL Fanzone: More Than Just Football

The Fanzone has been a huge success, bringing music, entertainment, and cultural experiences to matchdays. From local business stalls to live performances, it’s clear that NSL is more than just about football—it’s about community.

The Road Ahead: What’s Next for NSL?

The success of NSL in its first season shows that  Nagaland is ready for big-time football. But where does the league go from here? Some key areas for future growth include:

Expanding to more teams and venues to reach a wider audience

Collaboration with ISL clubs and AIFF to create a stronger pipeline for Nagaland’s best players

Youth academies and grassroots development programs to nurture future stars

Even bigger sponsorships and partnerships to increase prize money and league funding

Enhancing stadium infrastructure to improve the matchday experience

A Legacy in the Making

The Nagaland Super League has proven that football in Nagaland is not just a sport—it’s a movement. It has brought together players, fans, businesses, and communities in a way never seen before. More than just goals and trophies, NSL is about building dreams, creating careers, and inspiring a new generation.

As we look forward to the next season, one thing is clear: Nagaland football will never be the same again.
